Biking in your active holidays in Carinthia

For passionate mountain bikers, our sports hotel on the Turracher Höhe in Carinthia is the ideal springboard for adventures. You can choose from attractive tours, also suitable for families, for mountain and electric bikes. Downhill fans can try the trails of the Trail Area on the Turracher Höhe, including the 6-kilometre long Kornock Flowtrail,  shorter trails as well as a beginners trail. You can rent a bike in the sports shop near our hotel. For those who want to improve their skills we offer special E-Bike and Downhill Weeks.

Where can bicycles be stored safely?

In the front area of the Hochschober “Basislager” – right next to the refreshment corner – there is a secure, lockable space for storing bicycles.

Running & Nordic walking on the Turracher Höhe

The terrain on the Turracher Höhe (1,763 m) is ideal for runners and Nordic walkers. Through lush forests and over blooming alpine meadows, you go. There are various route options to choose from. And the best part: repeated altitude training through running also has extremely positive effects. The body is better supplied with oxygen, and sugar and fat burning also improve.

The most beautiful routes:

  • Around Lake Turrach: 2.4 kilometres (easy): signs: red arrows
  • 3 lakes round: 7.2 kilometres (moderate): Idyllic route around the three Turracher lakes, signs: yellow arrows
  • Sigi Grabner training route: 11.2 kilometres (difficult), signs: blue arrows
Can you go fishing in Lake Turracher?

With a permit, guests are welcome to fish in Lake Turracher – Hotel Hochschober is one of only three exclusive leaseholders of the lake. From July to early September, experienced local fishermen invite guests twice a week to try out fishing. All equipment is provided free of charge.

Swimming and cold water therapy in three mountain lakes

Those who enjoy swimming will delight in the heated Hochschober See-Bad. Here, you can swim all year round in pure lake water and fresh air. You can also swim in the indoor pool. For cold water therapy, the Turracher Lake is the perfect spot. Depending on the month, water temperatures in summer and autumn range from around 12 to 20 degrees Celsius. Other beautiful spots for cold bathing are the nearby Grünsee and Schwarzsee lakes.

Possibilities in your golf vacation

For golfers and those who want to try golfing, Hotel Hochschober is perfectly situated. It's just a 15-minute drive to the beautifully located 18-hole course in Bad Kleinkirchheim. Several other courses can be reached within a maximum of 90 minutes by car. Thanks to the cooperation with the GC Bad Kleinkirchheim, golfing guests of the Hochschober benefit from attractive advantages.

Biosphere Reserve Nockberge

The Biosphere Reserve Nockberge extends from Lungau in Salzburg over large parts of North Carinthia to the Turracher Höhe and the Hotel Hochschober directly at Lake Turrach in Carinthia. Its name is due to the rounded, over 2,000-meter-high Nockberge. In summer, the hotel program offers guided excursions into the UNESCO-awarded natural and cultural landscapes of the Nockberge.

What summer experiences await around the hotel?

The Panoramabahn takes you comfortably up to 1,900 metres – free of charge in summer with the Almbutler Advantage Card. At the top, a lovingly designed circular trail awaits with play stations, deck chairs, a viewing platform and a sand playground. The AlmZeit Hut invites you to stop and relax. For the return trip, choose between a hiking trail, the cable car, or an exciting ride on the Nocky Flitzer – the alpine roller coaster.
