THE 10-POINT
STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE
The Art of Idleness

You may know the Hochschober motto: “Simply do nothing for a while – and plenty of it.” Easier said than done.
Here, we reveal why the art of idleness is so worthwhile – and how to enjoy doing nothing without feeling stressed about it.

Not every moment needs to be filled
1. Set aside some time

Set aside a period of time that you deliberately keep free – with no plans, no goal and no expectations. Nothing needs to be done or thought through. Ideally, start with a short period of around ten minutes. Or simply take a short walk.

2. Switch off distractions

Put your smartphone on silent and place it out of reach.

3. Find a comfortable position

Make yourself comfortable – sitting, lying down or walking. Allow your body to relax before your mind follows.

4. Resist the urge to keep busy

Avoid finding substitute activities to keep yourself occupied. Even seemingly harmless distractions can quickly turn the moment back into something purposeful.

5. Allow for initial restlessness

Especially at first, doing nothing can feel unfamiliar. Thoughts such as “I should be doing something” are perfectly normal. You don’t have to act on them.

6. Let your thoughts come and go

Anything may arise: memories, plans, images, emptiness. There is no need to hold on to or judge any of it. If there are two of you, you may also talk – not to resolve anything, but simply to let thoughts emerge or to enjoy the silence together.

7. Don’t interfere

Don’t analyse, optimise or correct. Even if a thought lingers, there is no need to actively “work” on it. Simply let it be there while gently allowing your attention to move on.

8. If you get stuck on a thought: gently shift your focus

If a thought (such as a problem) keeps coming back, there is no point in fighting it. Briefly acknowledge it to yourself (“Ah, there’s that thought again.”), then gently bring your attention back to something simple in the present moment – sounds, physical sensations or light. Don’t push it away, simply redirect your attention.

9. Observe rather than control

Whether you are alone or with someone else, let impressions, thoughts and moods come and go without trying to direct them. There is nothing to achieve.

10. Don’t watch the clock – and return without expecting a result

Don’t keep checking the time – set an alarm instead. End this period without evaluating it or expecting a particular outcome. The art of idleness is not about the result, but about the experience itself.

Abhyanga Royal or synchronous Abhyanga is considered the most prestigious in Ayurveda. During this massage, two therapists ensure deep relaxation and a feeling of pure well-being.

Finding balance in the wellness hotel

According to Indian teachings, every person is determined by three "constitutional types": the so-called Doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha). The aim of Ayurvedic treatment is to maintain the dynamic balance of the Doshas and to activate the body's self-healing powers. The focus is always on the whole person – their body, mind, and soul.

Forehead Oil Pouring

The combination of Ayurvedic full-body massage and forehead oil pouring is particularly effective. This restores the entire organism to its inner balance, creating a deep sense of wholeness and abundance. The nervous system is strengthened, and the connective tissue can relax.
