Great views, rustic alps
The Nockberge biosphere park stretches from the Lungau in Salzburg to large parts of northern Carinthia to the Turracher Höhe. Its owes its name to the roundish, over 2,000 m high Nockberge. Characteristic trees in the biosphere park are the robust pines and larches. The needles of the larches turn a golden yellow in late autumn and the mountain blossom enchants visitors in June/July. The largest ski region is the one on the Turracher Höhe.
The Nockberge biosphere park can easily be explored while hiking on a selection of numerous panorama and high-altitude paths. Some start directly at the Hotel Hochschober on the Turracher Höhe. In summer, the hotel programme offers guided trips to the Nockberge biosphere park. There are also several beautiful routes for those who like to explore their surroundings by motorcycle or convertible.
Here are some attractive destinations:
- The 34 km winding Nockalm Road, a worthwhile experience”. It runs from Ebene Reichenau to Innerkrems.
- The “Granatium” in Radenthein, Europe’s only accessible granite vein
