With mythical mountain lakes, the Nockberge, larch and pine forests and the invigorating mountain climate, the Turracher Höhe is a multifaceted area for hiking in Carinthia and Styria. It is ideal for pleasure hiking as well as for challenging mountain tours. Guided hikes with Hochschober employees or the Alm Butler are a daily part of the hotel programme.

Relaxed or challenging? The hiking region on the Turracher Höhe and in the Nockberge biosphere park has it all. We particularly recommend the following hikes to you. All three start right outside the hotel door.
- Leisurely: the approx. 2-hour 3-lake walk through forests, through the raised bog to the Schwarzsee and continuing to the Grünsee.
- Panoramic: Hike for around 3.5 hours to the 2,208 m Schoberriegel, to the Hochschober Vastlhütte hut and the Grünsee.
- Challenging: See far across the land from the 2,334 m Rinsennock, the highest mountain on the Turracher Höhe. The hike takes about 4.45 hours.
Barefoot on top of the mountain
You could set out wearing sturdy shoes. Or how about “5-finger shoes”? The shoes made of water-resistant, soft material protect the feet, yet it feels as if you were walking barefoot. Mountain hiking in spring
“Hiking in a sea of blossom” is the name of the game around the mountain in spring time in June/July. Hike across blossoming alpine meadows to places where the plant life is particularly splendid. “Music on the Mountain” in July presents hikes accompanied by music ensembles. Autumn is about “Hiking above the clouds”. Hikers revel in clear conditions and the view extends far across the sea of fog in the valley below. The autumn highlights are the alphorn hikes every Friday, accompanied by two alphorn players.
Hiking in the winter season
Choose from around 15 km of winter hiking trails winter. Among the easy paths are those to the Grünsee (approx. 30 minutes), to the hotel’s own Våstlhütte hut on the Sam (approx. 1 hour) and continuing to the Hochsinner (approx. 1 hour), Carinthia’s highest-altitude mountain farm.
Useful: Hochschober guests can travel with the cable cars on the Turracher Höhe for free in summer with the Alm Butler-Card.
