Ideas for a variety of day trips

Selected destinations in Carinthia, Styria and Salzburg

You will reach a number of attractive day trip destinations in Carinthia within a two hour drive from the Hotel Hochschober. Among them are the Nock Berge National Park, museums, cities and lakes. For example:

Nearby
Only a few minutes' walk from the Hochschober, the Kranzelbinder family has established the alpin+art+gallery, a rock crystal and precious stone museum with gift shop. It’s beautiful to behold and with plenty of lovely souvenir ideas.
The little “Montanmuseum” mining museum in Turrach tells the story of the region's mining tradition.

Cities and towns

Feldkirchen, the nearby district capital in the heart of Carinthia is a popular shopping town. The Dietrichstein and Prägrad Castle ruins are well worth a visit.

Tamsweg  in the  Lungau district (Province of Salzburg) with the Saint Leonhard pilgrimage church was among the most visited pilgrimage sites in Austria in the late Middle Ages. Even today the historic market, beautifully preserved town houses and late gothic pilgrimage church make a lasting impression.

Murau (Styria), the little medieval town, invites you on a shopping stroll or a cultural walk, for example to the baroque Murau Castle to marvel at the grand hall and dungeons. The beer from the Murauer brewery is widely known and loved.

Schloss Albeck Palace is located near Feldkirchen. The baroque palace was built on top of a former castle using the stone from that castle. The old castle gate is used as the entrance gate today. The fully restored palace houses an exclusive restaurant and boutique gift shop.

Klagenfurt, the capital of Carinthia, is about 60 kilometers away. Points of interest are the pretty Old Town Centre with the Lindwurm (the emblem/mascot of the city), the Carinthia Museum of Modern Art and the Robert Musil museum of literature (Robert Musil was born in Klagenfurt), which is also dedicated to the famous Carinthian writer Ingeborg Bachmann.
Moreover, Klagenfurt lies on Lake Worther See. There you can find the Europapark, a large leisure park.

Villach, Carinthia's second largest city, lies about 60 kilometers away. Its historic Old Town features impressive buildings from the medieval and renaissance eras.

Lakes
Excursions to Carinthia’s famous lakes will be worth your while. Choose from either of Lakes Millstätter See, Ossiacher See or Worther See.
