Beautiful routes offer a good high altitude workout during your lakes and mountains holidays in Austria
The Turracher Höhe terrain at 1,763m above sea level is highly suitable for running and Nordic walking. Moreover, repeated high altitude workouts have a very positive effect on your health. The body's oxygen supply improves as well as the burning of sugars and fats.
Tips for beginners
At the start of your mountain holiday, you will probably notice that the air at this altitude is "thinner". Therefore we recommend starting with a slower and gentler training programme than in the valley.
From easy to hard
You can choose from three running routes. The starting point is the "Running Checkpoint" signpost on Lake Turracher See at the Gasthof Kemperle inn.
- Around Lake Turracher See 2.4 kilometres (easy): simple path around the lake with gentle slope. Marked by: red arrows.
- "3 Seen-Runde" around the 3 lakes 7.2 kilometres (medium): idyllic route around the three Turracher lakes and through the high moor, several slopes. Marked by: yellow arrows.
- "Sigi Grabner" training route 11.2 kilometers (hard): Sigi Grabner, Snowboarding world champion comes from the "Hochsinner" farm, Carinthia's highest altitude mountain farm. This demanding training route runs from the Turracher Höhe to the Hochsinner farm. Up and down over pastures and through pine forests. Marked by: blue arrows.
