Sustainable management is our principle that has spanned generations
The Hochschober wellness hotel opened more than 80 years ago. It is currently being run by the third generation of the original owner's family. Full of new ideas and with attention to sustainable management: in the present and for the future.
How it began: the history of our wellness hotel in Carinthia
When in the early 20th century summer holidaymakers and hill walkers started to discover the Austrian Turracher Höhe at 1763 metres above sea level, the first houses and hotels were built. In 1929, Hans and Hilde Leeb opened the "Gasthof Hochschober" inn with 30 beds.
Its location high up on the mountain, far from any traffic routes made it necessary to attract guests by not only giving guests special attention and care, but also coming up with new and unusual ideas. Hans and Hilde Leeb laid the foundation stone for this.
Inspiring journeys
In 1967, Peter Leeb, the adopted son of Hans and Hilde Leeb, and his wife Barbara took over the management of the hotel. Peter Leeb had spent several apprentice years abroad – foreign cultures and different perspectives had always been fascinating to him. Many of the unusual ideas that Barbara and Peter Leeb brought to life in the following years were inspired by journeys. Some of them appeared downright crazy at first – the heated pool in the lake, the first hamam in the Alps, the Chinese tower in Austria. At the same time, the Hochschober attracted attention through their attention to endearing details – the "Lästerbank" bench to rest and gossip, the "Jungbrunnen" and "Milchstraße" drinks and snacks bars. Another one of the traditionally outstanding features is the abundance of extras included in the package rates, such as guided walking tours or creative seminars.
The third generation
Since 2003, Karin Leeb, daughter of Barbara and Peter Leeb, and her husband Martin Klein have been continuing the Hochschober tradition in its third generation. Travel enthusiasts, they are always open to the extraordinary and have a distinctive focus on sustainable management. And there is already a fourth generation with an eager eye on the business affairs: Julia (born in 2003) and Daniel (born in 2005).
