The spa hotel's "Wortreich" library is home to over 3000 books
Do you like reading during your holidays? The Wortreich library, complete with reading salon, offers a choice of more than 3000 carefully selected books for you. Or you can gain new insights during one of the "Literatur am Berg" literary readings and book presentations on the Turracher Höhe.
Room for books
Some years ago we had the idea of establishing a library within the spa hotel. We chose to do this because we ourselves are passionate readers and many of our guests use their holidays partly to find time for reading. It was to be an equally beautiful and functional room offering the ideal setting for reading, writing, and talking about literature. A room with style, a well-equipped place to rest and meet up for those who not only want to refresh their body, but also their mind.
Modern and alpine
We took special care that the library fitted in with the Hochschober spa hotel and reflected its mountainside location. The design was developed in cooperation with the Viennese design duo Christian Satek and Mag. Sabine Kreuzspiegel. Its composition picks up elements that remind us of the old Hochschober from the 1930s: for example, the swallowtails on the walls or the markings on the chairs (presumably Celtic in origin) and wool blankets. A combination of local wood, wrought iron, wool fabrics and natural colours connect the interior to its Alpine Turracher Höhe surroundings.
Elegant and cosy
In May 2010 we opened the "Wortreich", our library with reading salon. The rooms are pleasantly calm and bright. There are comfortable loungers, arm chairs, writing and reading spaces at the window, side tables, wool blankets, bookrests, an open fire and perfect lighting. Everything, in short, that makes reading hours truly enjoyable.
Erwin Sterling, a carpenter from the Carinthian Lavanttal Valley, panelled the library walls using whitewashed oak wood. The wrought iron chandelier, the arm chairs and reading loungers are custom built. The stone for the open fire surround comes from Carinthia.
Well-stocked
The library offers a choice of over 3000 books. Among them are many of our family's favourites, as well as books we have selected under the guidance of literary experts. You will find works of world literature, light reading, biographies, illustrated volumes, crime fiction, science fiction and fantasy, poetry, English and Italian language books, guide books and nonfiction.
"Literature on the Mountain" – literary events
As part of the "Literature on the Mountain" series of literary events we regularly welcome guest authors to read from their books. People of interest present their favourite books. Experts offer insight into foreign cultures; discussions about literature and philosophical topics take place.
